Is Concrete5 any good?

Mar 01, 2021

Are you looking at different content management systems and wondering if Concrete5 is any good? The answers is yes and no. Concrete5 is an excellent CMS to manage a website with. It is very intuitive, easy to use and out of the box fairly powerful. But will concrete5 work for your website needs? Really it depends on what you want to do.

You wouldn't want to build Twitter on the concrete5 CMS. It really works best for content websites, ecommerce, photo galleries or the basis for more customized applications where you need site admins with less technical skills to be able to do powerful things on a website.

Personally, if I were creating a blog website and was choosing between concrete5 and maybe Wordpress, I would probably lean a little more towards Wordpress (read our Pros/Cons review of each). We've created some great blogs with Concrete5, but Wordpress was originally purposefully built for blogging and has it natively built in.

How is concrete5 for small business applications? I'd say it is excellent. It is very easy to use and non-technical people can learn it very quickly because of its intuitive interface. You can add slideshows, video, create email forms, and do in content editing in just seconds.

How is concrete5 for enterprise level applications? That would depend on the application, but concrete5 is trusted by deployed with a number of Fortune 500 companies and large institutions including the US Army, BASF, Emcor and Iowa State University. Advanced permissions, multi-site, flexible APIs, workflows and much more are available in concrete5 making development for larger, more complex website relatively easy.
