Are you looking to selling products online for your business? Confused with the myriad of options to choose from when it comes to ecommerce platforms? Here is a quick list of things to consider when making your options:
Have you heard about the new Wordpress 5.0 changes that are coming. For some it will be an improvement (Wordpress has been falling behind for years), but for others it is going to force some pretty radical changes that won't be compatible with their current website. At Pixo, we have experience with those changes and can guide you through them. Some business owners might find the new Wordpress 5.0 changes to be welcome. For some websites making content updates in widgets and the like isn't ideal and the new changes will make updating a website faster and more intuitive. More like making changes on a Wix or Square Space website, but without the limits.
I've seen it more than once. A new business builds a website on a website builder service like WIX, Square Space or Godaddy because it is an "inexpensive" way to build a website. They spend a fair amount of time on that site and over time build it out as their business grows, investing a fair amount of time into it. Then new business opportunities come up and they get stuck. They need to integrate with 3rd parties or add enhancements that simple services like WIX can't handle. Basically you have no access to the source code. You are allowed to do what their tools offer and that is about it. If you need something to work in a specific way, integrate with partners or customize behaviors on the website you simply can't do it. Now you've invested possibly hundreds of hours into a website that essentially you just have to scrap and start on a new website that has the flexibility to grow with your business over time. When considering your online marketing strategy make sure you don't paint yourself into a corner and make a small investment now that will save you thousands of dollars in time or lost business later and allow your business to grow.
I hear it all the time. A website owner and potential customer who tells us that their website isn't converting or sales are dropping off. They scratch their heads and wonder what they need to do and how they do it. Here are the top 5 reasons why your website may not be driving business.
You may or may not be familiar with the award-winning concrete5 content management system (CMS). It is easy (or easier) to use than Wordpress and as good for development (or better) than Drupal. One of the latest features in concrete5 is multi-site content management. Basically the ability to manage multiple sites from a single installation. This works well for small businesses that need to manage multiple location websites, government agencies or for a large enterprise with a large number of high trafficked websites with individual needs.
Here is an interesting fact. New research shows that 86.5% of WordPress websites in the UK are vulnerable to known hackable exploits which can allow malware to be added to your website and puts your data at risk. Europe's new General Data Protection Regulations requires a business to responsibly secure customer data and a website. Is your website secure? WordPress is the most hacked content management system partially because it is the most used. That doesn't mean it can't be secure. Let us help you fix a hacked website and secure it. We've said it for a while, but a recent study confirms it. Consumers were asked if they thought a local business should have a blog? 68% of respondents said they should. When asked what type of information they wanted to see on that blog, the following was their reply:
I've been developing websites for 22 years now and loved every minute of it. One thing I've seen too frequently over the years is where someone hires a freelance developer and then at some point they disappear or tell you that they've got a new job and no longer will be able to work on the website for you, leaving you high and dry.
Some of the best website design work I think we've done in the last three years has been done for life insurance agents and agencies. I'm not just talking about design, but about some really cutting edge stuff that allows and agent or an agency to stand out in a very crowded marketplace. We've done some sites that found some truly niche markets that drove real revenue and did it without breaking the bank. I think that is one of the great things about the concrete5 content management system, is we are can deliver a site with lower cost, with a ton of functionality that allows business owners, marketers and agents to make real-time changes on their site that to stay ahead of market demands and allows a website to be a real marketing tool.

I've wrote about this some before, but it is a trend that seems to be gaining some steam. That is users using the phrase "near me" in their local searches. One great way to take advantage of this trend is to add "near me" appropriately to your website pages. In the Google My Business listings in the search results, Google uses proximity to find the best local results. But for the organic results it is kind of a mish mash of different results, depending on the search phrase. So for example, a search for "website design near me" or "SEO near me" might bring up local results, but also results for companies that have content that best matches that phrase. So by having that content on your website, you increase your changes of your business being found locally. Just a quick and free local SEO tip.
So you have probably seen the map results that show up at the top of some (but not all) search results on Google. Have you ever wondered how to rank in the Google My Business (GMB) map listings in the search results? Has your site been hit by the Google Possum update? Here are some secrets and things you can do to show up on the top of page #1 on Google in the local pack. The first step is to setup a Google My Business listing here. It is free and fairly easy to setup, but read this post first.
There are a few easy and basic things you can do for your Wordpress or concrete5 website to make it load pages faster and increase the page speed. It will usually take less than 5 minutes to get done and you'll have a better user experience and possibly better SEO rankings, buy that small time investment.
When I first started writing this post, I wasn't sure what I would be writing about. But as I started thinking about what we did this year we accomplished some amazing things. Late last year we opened up our new office in Midway, Utah, just outside of Park City. We continue to do great stuff in Denver, working with some very innovative companies and doing unique campaigns. I think some of the most interesting projects we did in 2017 were for clients around the United States. A couple were the first websites on their kind for their industry and are already having very interesting results.
Years ago I used to be asked about enterprise level content management using the concrete5 CMS. I don't hear those questions quite as much anymore. The U.S. Army uses concrete5 to manage content across all of their garrisons websites. Pixo has managed a Fortune 500 companies websites for years. All of 100+ sites all run on the concrete5 CMS. They chose concrete5 because of the flexibility it gives them to manage a number of different things as well as low level training required for their different entities to manage their websites.
For that same Fortune 500 company, we've launched 31 new websites in just two weeks for the client. Many of these websites are relatively large, but the tools in concrete5 allow us to easily setup new sites, add content and push the sites live in a relatively short amount of time.
